This bronze sculpture guards the west entrance of the Ohio Statehouse and symbolizes the typical soldier of the American Expeditionary forces during World War I. ┬áThe term ‘Doughboy’ dates back to before the war and, although information about the origins of the term are conflicting, it most likely has some root in the soldier’s affinity for fried dough; ie, ‘Donuts’.
