This elegant memorial honors the 184 victims of the hijacked Flight 77 which was crashed by terrorists into the west side of the Pentagon.

Key Details:

The primary element of the memorial is a series of benches which are arranged on the same alignment as the flight path of the plane and are grouped on lines which correspond to the victim’s age.  The benches appear to ‘peel’ upward from the plaza, revealing a still pool of water.  They are dramatically lit from beneath at night, creating a solemn but dramatic appearance.

The benches themselves face either toward or away from the Pentagon.  This represents each victim’s location; either within the Pentagon or onboard Flight 77.  The stainless steel frame of each bench is engraved with the name of the victim and an additional plaque is located in the reflecting pool which lists any of their family members which were also killed in the attack.
