With over 250,000 grave sites, this hallowed landscape is the preeminent military cemetery in the United States.
Key Details:
The cemetery is administered by the Department of the Army and has 27 to 30 military services daily. There are a number of widely-known memorials and daily ceremonies including the Tomb of the Unknowns and the Changing of the Guard. A number of significant grave sites are located throughout the cemetery with markers of various sizes, shapes, and materials. However, the cemetery is probably most widely known for the seemingly endless linear rows of white headstones which criss cross the rolling green landscape.
If You Go:
Arlington is open to the public for tours and hosts more than 4 million visitors annually. Visitors are encouraged to start at the Visitor Center and head out into the cemetery from there. The Metro Blue Line has a stop just outside the gate.
